RURAL TOURISM AS A CATALYST FOR SUSTAINABLE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT IN ASSAM: AN ANALYTICAL STUDY

Abstract

For a state like Assam, where almost 70% of the population lives in villages, building a solid base around the idea of rural tourism is undoubtedly beneficial. Additionally, Assam is home to a number of different ethnic tribes and groups, each of which has its own unique language, culture, festivals, music, and dances. There is a lot of potential for rural Assam to draw travelers looking for genuine natural and cultural resources. Unfortunately, though, this potential has not been fully used. Even if the Assam government implements several programs, the results are only mediocre. This is the outcome of certain challenges in Assam. Based on secondary sources of data, the current study aims to emphasize the potential of rural tourism as a route to Assam's socioeconomic growth as well as the numerous problems the state faces in this regard. Additionally, the report offers suggestions for enhancing the tourist sector as a potential instrument for Assam's socioeconomic growth. (Das, 2018).
