PRIVATE TUITION AND ITS EXPANDING INFLUENCE: AN ANALYTICAL STUDY AT THE SECONDARY LEVEL IN SIVASAGAR DISTRICT OF ASSAM

Abstract

Private tuition has emerged as a rapidly expanding phenomenon within the education systems of both developing and developed nations. Over the past two decades, its prevalence has increased significantly, permeating diverse socio-economic backgrounds. In many countries, private supplementary tutoring has evolved into a major educational industry with considerable economic, social, and pedagogical implications. This paper examines the growing dependence on private tuition among secondary school students in Sivasagar district of Assam. The study explores the reasons for seeking private tuition, the subjects taught, the nature of tutors, the teaching–learning processes involved, and the different forms of private tutoring practiced in the region.
